Metal-Free Dentistry:
There was a time when silver-mercury amalgam was the material of choice for filling cavities. Thankfully, times have changed. If you still have metal dentistry in your mouth, your teeth are at risk.
Silver-mercury fillings react to temperature changes, expanding and contracting within your delicate tooth. This movement can weaken the tooth wall, causing it to break or chip. The movement also allows harmful bacteria to get under the filling, causing further decay.
At Blunston Dental Group, we practice metal-free dentistry. We restore teeth with natural looking bonded restorations, crowns and bridges. The restorations are stronger than metal, more conservative, and safer for your teeth. Best of all, they’re virtually invisible, keeping your smile white and attractive.
Periodontal Therapy:
To have a smile of lasting beauty, you must have healthy gums! We place a high priority on periodontal (gum) care, because as serious as it is, it can be difficult to detect.
Many people have periodontal disease and don’t even realize it. Over 85% of the population has some level of periodontal disease, due to the problem being misdiagnosed or ignored. Even worse, more people experience tooth loss from periodontal disease than cavities.
There are often no symptoms of periodontal disease. Gums can recede, leaving teeth vulnerable to decay, abscesses and loss – without bleeding or tenderness. Minor symptoms include:
- Bleeding when brushing or flossing
- Puffiness or tenderness of the gums
- Halitosis or bad breath
- Loose feeling teeth
If not treated:
- Affects the weight of unborn children
- Contributes to heart disease and stroke
- Limits the effectiveness of insulin for diabetics
- Osteoporosis
- Diabetes
